They protect, support, and restore the teeth as well as holding a dental bridge and covering discoloration. Dental crowns are made of different materials such as metal, porcelain fused to metal, pressed ceramic, and many more.

Usually, they are made of porcelain so it can be able to aesthetically blend with the teeth. There are four main types of dental bridges: traditional, cantilever, Maryland, and implant supported. Bridges can restore the smile, proper chewing ability and prevent the other teeth from moving out of the correct position. They can last between 5 and 15 years, which depends on a person’s oral hygiene and checkups.

It is applied to fill the hole of the root from the original teeth where false teeth can be attached instead. Implants provide a permanent alternative to dentures and bridges. The process can take multiple months from start to finish. Much of that time is devoted to healing and waiting for the growth of new bone in the jaw.

The bacteria have to be removed first, then the root canal is filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown.

Preventive Dentistry:

  1. Dental Cleanings:

Teeth cleaning (also known as prophylaxis) is a procedure for the removal of tartar (mineralized plaque) that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach in routine tooth brushing. Dental cleanings are carried out by a dental hygienist, but before the cleaning a physical exam of the entire mouth should be taken. Dentists use a scaler to get rid of plaque and tartar around the gum line and in between the teeth.

  1. Oral Cancer Screenings:

To identify any signs of oral cancer, a dentist or a doctor perform an examination that is called an oral cancer screening. The goal of the screening is to detect mouth cancer or precancerous lesions that may lead to mouth cancer at an early stage — when cancer or lesions are easiest to remove and most likely to be cured.

Bruxism:

Bruxism is when you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth together. There are two types which are awake bruxism and sleep bruxism. It can damage the teeth and any kind of restoration applied to them, can cause tension headaches as well as extreme facial or jaw pain. Some ways to treat bruxism are applying splints and mouth guards which are constructed of hard acrylic or soft materials. Another method can be dental corrections where the dentist will have to reshape the surfaces of the teeth or the use of crowns can be required.
